W8 P.E

Physical education with speaker Mr. Elorde reminded me how I have thought about P.E. This subject was being taught once a week for 2hours. Physical education is not just simply moving and exercising but it also teaches techniques for the students to understand how to move and how to enjoy different sports. Sometimes it requires the teacher’s discussion but often by demonstrating the postures and other instructions needed to be reminded. To test the students, yes, I remember during my high school days individual or group skilled games served as a practical test such as softball, table tennis, volleyball, Swimming, and Chinese/Japanese dances. But in teaching physical education, Mr. Elorde has mentioned that there could be some difficulties to face and I think sickness would also be a factor where I also have experience in high school. In my first year high school, I had severe skin asthma so I wasn’t able to participate swimming lesson with my classmates. This affected my grade where instead of swimming, I had to report on the kinds of strokes. I had no choice but just to watch my classmates and make presentation on the assigned topic. Also, it was new to know from Mr. Elorde that in P.E he shows film viewing. In my high school P.E, it was all lecture, activities and practical but no film viewing. I think would be a great lesson strategy as long as the film is relevant to the topic being discussed. For me, P.E was always one of my favorite subjects not because of the different sports taught in the class but also because of the skillful teacher who manages the class well. No matter the subject is hard or easy, if the teacher really knows the topic well and proficient with the subject it is sure that the students are going to find the subject really meaningful.
